研究分野

「プルームテクトニクス」理論の提唱者であり、地質学の体系化と地球史解読の中心的人物として、長年にわたり地球物理学の発展に貢献。また、地質学、地球科学、地球物理学、天文学、生物学など複数の分野にわたる「超学際」科学の実践に取り組み、地球の生命史と生命の起源、進化のメカニズム等の解明に向けて、精力的な探究を重ねてきた。その革新的な理論モデルは、しばしば「ポストダーウィン進化論」と呼ばれ、学際的視点から導き出される独創的な仮説とともに、一貫して世界的な研究の最前線を担っている。
